Use Stamps in the Store

1. Customers collect stamps

1.1 A customer's first visit

On their first visit, customers log in via the Stamps Terminal.

Here's how the process works:

  1. The customer unlocks his smartphone.

  2. The customer goes to the home screen.

  3. The customer holds their smartphone up to the Stamps terminal for about 3 seconds.

  4. A link appears on the smartphone.

  5. The customer opens the link.

  6. The customer logs in once.

  7. The first stamp is collected.

  8. The customer can save the digital stamp card in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.

Customers don’t need a separate app for this. The digital stamp card works directly on their smartphone and can be saved in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.

Important: Tapping works most reliably when the smartphone is unlocked and on the home screen.

We recommend briefly walking customers through the process the first time.

For example:

“You don't need an app. Just unlock your phone, tap here, and save the card to your wallet.”

1.2 More visits

The process is faster on subsequent visits.

The customer unlocks their smartphone, goes to the home screen, and holds it up to the Stamps terminal again. The digital stamp card opens, and the new stamp is added.

If the customer has saved the card in their Wallet, it remains available there at all times. This way, they can check their current stamp count anytime.

Important: The Wallet should not be open before tapping. Tapping works best from the home screen.

2. Redeem Reward

2.1 When the card is full

Once the customer has collected the last required stamp, the card is full.

The full card remains stored in the customer’s wallet. The reward is not automatically issued immediately upon receiving the last stamp.

The customer brings the full card with them on their next visit and presents it at the register. Your team briefly checks to see if the card is complete and if the reward is available.

Only then does the redemption process begin.

2.2 Redeem a reward via the Stamps Terminal

To redeem the offer, the customer holds their smartphone up to the Stamps terminal again.

A button then appears on the smartphone:

“Redeem Reward”

The customer presses this button. This resets the card to 0 stamps.

Only after the card has been successfully reset does the customer receive their reward—for example, a free drink, a discount, or another offer.

2.3 What happens after redemption?

Once the card has been redeemed, it resets to zero.

The customer can start collecting new stamps right away with their next purchase. The digital card remains stored in the Wallet and does not need to be added again.

3. Place the Stamps Terminal in the store

3.1 Where should the Stamps Terminal be located?

The Stamps terminal should be placed in a clearly visible spot on the counter.

It’s best to place it where customers place their orders or pay. The more visible the terminal is, the more often it will be used.

Good locations include, for example:

  • right next to the register

  • at the order counter

  • at the pickup area

  • next to a small note about the reward

The terminal should not be hidden, obscured, or placed too far away from where the payment is being made.

3.2 When should customers scan?

It's best for customers to scan their cards right when they pay or shortly afterward.

This way, collecting points becomes a habit, and your team can actively remind customers to do so.

Some good phrases to use are:

“Are you collecting stamps on our digital stamp card yet?”

“You can collect stamps right here using your phone.”

“You don't need an app—just tap here.”

4. Prepare the team

4.1 What should your team know?

Your team should have tested the process themselves at least once.

Every team member should know:

  • How customers get started on their first visit

  • How customers collect stamps on subsequent visits

  • What a full card looks like

  • How to redeem the reward

  • That the reward is only issued after the card is reset

  • What to do if the tap doesn't work right away

It's best for each team member to try out Stamps once on their own smartphone.

4.2 Here's how your team can explain Stamps in just a few seconds

Stamps should be explained as simply as possible at the counter.

Good ways to phrase this are:

“You don’t need an app. Just unlock your phone and tap here briefly.”

“You can save our stamp card directly to your Apple or Google Wallet.”

“On your next visit, just tap here again and you’ll get your next stamp.”

“When your card is full, show it to us on your next visit and redeem it here at the terminal.”

It's important for your team to actively explain the process. Especially at the beginning, customers don't yet know that they can collect stamps digitally.

4.3 Frequently Asked Questions in the Store

Do I need an app?

No. Stamps works without its own app.

Do I have to register?

The customer logs in once so that the card can be saved and recognized.

Does this work with Apple Wallet and Google Wallet?

Yes. The card can be saved in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.

What should I do on my next visit?

Simply unlock your smartphone and hold it up to the Stamps terminal again.

What happens when my card is full?

The full card stays in your wallet. On your next visit, show it at the register, tap the Stamps terminal, and press “Redeem Reward.” The card will then be reset, and you’ll receive your reward.

5. Increase everyday use

5.1 Actively reach out to customers

Stamps works best when your team actively reminds customers about it.

Many customers won't scan on their own, even if the terminal is clearly visible on the counter.

Good times to bring it up are:

  • when paying

  • for regular customers

  • when a customer comes in regularly

  • when a customer asks for a stamp card

  • when someone looks curiously at the terminal

One simple sentence is enough:

“We now have a digital stamp card—would you like to collect your first stamp right away?”

5.2 Clearly Communicate the Reward

Customers are more likely to use a digital stamp card if the reward is immediately clear.

The reward should be described in simple, concrete terms.

Good examples:

“Collect 10 stamps and get a free coffee.”

“After 8 visits, you'll get your next drink for free.”

“Collect 6 stamps and get a discount on your next purchase.”

Avoid texts that are too long or complicated. Customers should be able to understand at a glance why they should donate.

5.3 Make stamps visible

The Stamps Terminal shouldn't just sit on the counter; it should be actively integrated into the workflow.

Here's a helpful tip:

  • Place the terminal where it is clearly visible

  • Have the team actively draw attention to it

  • Clearly communicate the reward

  • Briefly assist customers during their first scan

  • Do not hide the terminal among other items

The simpler and more transparent the process is, the more customers use Stamps on a regular basis.
